COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is looking for a paid, part-time Communications Intern. The intern will support the Communications team in achieving the organization’s communications strategy by bringing research and evidence into the public debate to improve policy and strengthen democracy.
This Communications Intern is a flexible part-time position with an hourly wage between $16- $19 per hour, commensurate with experience. The position requires a commitment of 10 - 15 hours per week, and would ideally begin in early September. This is a fully remote position and reports to SSN’s Digital Communications Associate and Director of Communications.

Responsibilities
As a relatively small organization, SSN has a lean, productive staff that supports and creates opportunities for our members. Among other tasks, the Communications Intern will:
- Brainstorm, pitch, and create content for SSN’s social media platforms (Twitter, Bluesky, LinkedIn, etc.) and the SSN website.
- Monitor media hits and member activity to inform SSN content.
- Support design of graphics on Canva using SSN branding.
- Assist in advertising campaigns utilizing Google Ads and LinkedIn Ads.
- Support the creation of SSN email newsletters.
- Build reporter lists for targeted outreach.
- Support the rest of the SSN communications team as needed by proof-reading documents, compiling data, and taking on new tasks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, depending on experience, interest, and department needs.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position would be:
- An individual with some experience in communications, or an advanced undergraduate student
- An excellent writer with strong verbal communication and proofreading skills
- Capable of translating complex concepts into easy-to-understand language.
- Experienced in monitoring and managing professional social media accounts
- Familiar with marketing softwares and content management systems, including but not limited to Cision Media Monitoring, Buffer, Drupal, Wordpress, and/or Mailchimp
- Organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask questions
- Able and excited to learn new skills
- Flexible and able to move easily between tasks
- Committed to Scholars Strategy Network’s mission of promoting the use of research in policymaking and public discourse
- Eager to learn about the nonprofit sector and policy process
